A brand new trailer for A Minecraft Movie has been released, offering a closer look at the story and introducing a much more talkative version of Steve, the silent protagonist that players embody in Minecraft.

The trailer shows Steve (played by Jack Black), who reveals his backstory as a child who dreams of “the mines.” As an adult, he discovers a mysterious blue cube that transports him to the Minecraft world—an awe-inspiring landscape where, as he says, “anything you can imagine is possible.”

The film also stars Jason Momoa as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, who brags about his past achievements as a video game champion; Emma Myers as Natalie, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen as Henry, with Jennifer Coolidge in an unspecified role.

The film follows Steve and his four companions—Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn—as they’re pulled into the Minecraft universe through a mysterious portal. They must now work together to survive in this strange and magical realm, braving foes like Piglins and Zombies and learning the game’s survival mechanics, from crafting to combat. The group embarks on an epic quest to return home, all while rediscovering their creative strengths along the way.

Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time, has been a massive cultural success since its public release 15 years ago. Known for its iconic pixelated blocks, the game has inspired everything from toys and books to spin-off games and community-driven events. A Minecraft Movie marks the first time the game’s universe will appear on the big screen.

A Minecraft Movie, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, opens only in cinemas April 2025.
