Short-form video platform TikTok has partnered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Philippines to promote financial literacy and raise awareness on investment scams through its flagship digital literacy campaign, #ThinkTwice.
The collaboration comes amid growing concerns over online scams. A recent Global Anti-Scam Alliance survey found that over 75% of Filipino adults encountered at least one scam in the past year. With scams often peaking during the holiday season, the initiative urges users to pause, reflect, and #ThinkTwice before engaging with suspicious investment offers or online solicitations.
The partnership was formalized during a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), where both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to equipping Filipinos with practical skills and tools to navigate the digital landscape safely.
“TikTok has always prioritized the safety of its community, investing in technology, human moderation, and educational initiatives to get ahead of emerging threats. While the fight against scams is a multi-sectoral one, we’re confident our partnership with the SEC is an important step in empowering Filipinos to navigate the digital world safely,” said Yves Gonzalez, Head of Public Policy for the Philippines at TikTok.
As part of the collaboration, TikTok and the SEC will co-produce a series of #ThinkTwice videos educating users on common scams, verification of information sources, and strategies to avoid fraud. The first video will focus on Ponzi schemes, highlighting how they work, typical language used by scammers, and steps to protect oneself.
The videos will be available on TikTok’s platforms, the #ThinkTwice Resource Hub, and the SEC’s official social media pages.
This initiative builds on TikTok’s ongoing efforts in digital literacy, including campaigns with the Commission on Elections and the Department of Migrant Workers, further strengthening the public’s ability to make informed and safe online decisions.
