Did you know your recyclables can earn you cash? Every first Friday and Saturday of the month, SM Supermalls hosts Trash to Cash (TTC), a nationwide recycling market where you can trade waste for money.
Since 2007, this initiative—part of the Waste-Free Future campaign—has been promoting recycling, waste segregation, and environmental awareness while helping communities earn extra income.
With 87 SM malls participating nationwide, the Trash to Cash program makes it easy for shoppers, tenants, and local communities to take part in sustainable waste management. By properly sorting and repurposing recyclables, TTC helps drive the circular economy while strengthening SM Supermalls’ dedication to environmental stewardship.
To say that the impact of TTC has been remarkable would be an understatement. In 2024 alone, the initiative collected over 12 million kilograms of recyclables, generating more than P28 million in earnings for participants. This is equivalent to saving approximately 204,000 trees if all recyclables were paper, or a reduction of 18,000 tons of carbon emissions if all were plastic.
