In recent years, there has been a rise in transparent devices: see-through smart TVs, phones and earbuds with transparent cases, and even chargers and cables. Now, Lenovo is bringing this idea to the world of computing with its ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept.

The proof-of-concept laptop boasts a borderless 17.3-inch Full HD Micro-LED display, which is 55% transparent when the pixels are set to black and fully opaque when white. It also comes with a transparent keyboard area and a floating footpad design.

Powered by micro-LED technology, the display provides high color saturation, exceptional contrast, and 1000nits brightness for optimal visibility.

The ThinkBook laptop seamlessly combines virtual and real elements using AI-generated content (AIGC), enhancing work collaboration and efficiency. It enables interaction with physical objects while overlaying digital information.

Now, while a laptop with a completely transparent screen may seem cool, it does raise questions about privacy. Would you want the person sitting across from you see what you’re doing? We know, right?

But should Lenovo or some other manufacturer develop such a device in the future, it would be wise to include an opaque privacy layer that you can easily toggle on should you need some privacy.

Currently, the idea of a transparent laptop becoming a real product seems unlikely. But this proof-of-concept machinefrom Lenovo at least gives us a peek into what see-through technology will look like on a portable PC.
