Not every runner steps onto the starting line chasing the same thing. Some want a personal best, while others may simply be looking to finish their first race.
Nike is addressing those different goals with a new race-day system of speed built around three shoes: the Nike Apex, Alphafly 4, and Swooshfly.
Instead of treating one shoe as the ultimate racing option, Nike says the new lineup is designed to give runners a choice based on their goals, experience, and preferred race-day feel.
The Nike Apex is designed for runners chasing every possible second and looking for Nike’s most advanced expression of marathon speed.

The Nike Alphafly 4, meanwhile, is positioned as a more accessible option for runners looking for a balance of responsiveness, comfort, stability, and efficiency over long distances.

For those taking on their first race or simply looking for more confidence at the starting line, the Nike Swooshfly focuses on cushioning and a more approachable race-day experience.

All three shoes draw from Nike’s work in athlete testing and research at the Nike Sport Research Lab, combining technologies such as proprietary Air Zoom platforms, advanced foams, and engineered plates.
The new lineup is also designed to complement Nike’s existing road-running footwear, giving runners more ways to choose a shoe based on what they want from race day.
As for availability, the Nike Alphafly 4 launches in October, followed by the Nike Apex in January 2027 and Nike Swooshfly in February 2027. All three will be available through nike.com and select retail locations.
