Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) and Rise Against Hunger Philippines have partnered to package 10,000 nutritious meals for underserved communities in Cebu, supporting approximately 166 public school students in Cordova for at least 120 days.
The initiative was held during Purple Week as part of FedEx’s FWS Day of Service, which honors founder Frederick W. Smith and encourages employees to give back to the communities they serve. Sixty FedEx volunteers took part in the meal-packing activity.
Each meal bag contains rice, dehydrated soy, dehydrated vegetables or fruits, flavoring mix, and micronutrient powder fortified with 18 essential vitamins and minerals. The meals are designed to support children’s healthy growth, cognitive development, immune function, and overall well-being.
The initiative comes as child nutrition remains a concern in the Philippines. According to the Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute’s 2025 Updating Survey, stunting among Filipino children under five rose to 25.3% in 2025, or about one in four children. This marked the first recorded increase since 2015.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential, and proper nutrition is an important foundation for that journey,” said Maribeth Espinosa, managing director, FedEx Philippines. “By collaborating with Rise Against Hunger Philippines, we are able to support children and families in underserved communities while contributing to a broader effort to address food insecurity and improve nutrition outcomes.”
FedEx and Rise Against Hunger Philippines previously worked together to provide 3,600 meals to Aeta communities in Pampanga. The latest effort expands their shared work addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable communities in the Philippines.
