Dyson’s latest hair tool isn’t for ordinary consumers. Instead, the Dyson Supersonic r hair dryer is made to address the needs and pain points of professional stylists

The Supersonc r—named such because it looks like the lowercase letter “r”—is 20% lighter and 30% smaller than the original Supersonic, making it easier to manipulate and carry for long stretches of time. The shape allows professionals to effortlessly reach where it is normally hard to reach for control and comfort.

Dyson’s proprietary new heater technology is small, light, and incredibly power dense. The company revamped the conventional hair dryer design, replacing coils wrapped around mica boards and the fan with three symmetrically stacked disc-like grates. This design, Dyson says, ensures even heating and eliminates cold spots.

Just like the rest of Dyson’s hair tools, the Supersonic r is equipped with intelligent heat control. A glass bead thermistor works in tandem with an embedded temperature sensor within the heater—measuring air temperature over 20 times a second to prevent extreme heat damage and protect natural shine.

The Supersonic r is also equipped with an RFID sensor to recognize its magnetic accessories and automatically adjust the motor and heater accordingly in order to deliver optimal airflow and temperature to suit the purpose.

This professional hair dryer comes with three airflow settings and four heat modes, including constant cold shot. The controls are conveniently placed within reach of your thumb, and there are LED indicators on the handle.

Dyson is currently offering the Supersonic r in select markets for $569.99.
