The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is gaining traction in the Philippines, with 46% of Filipino workers reporting monthly usage at work, according to latest Decoding Global Talent Report 2024 by Jobstreet by SEEK, in partnership with Boston Consulting Group and The Network.
This percentage surpasses the global average of 39%, highlighting a growing trend in AI adoption among Filipino professionals.
The study is based on survey data from over 150,000 respondents around the world, including more than 6,400 Filipino employees from diverse industries. Filipino employees aged 18-24 are twice as likely to use GenAI compared to other age groups (64%).
In terms of usage, 50% of respondents use GenAI for writing tasks at work, while 58% rely on it for skill development and learning.
Among industries, those who work in Digitalization and Data Sciences use GenAI most frequently, at 71%, followed by those in Information Technology (IT) at 65%.
When it comes to job impact, 82% of Filipinos believe that AI will change some aspects of their work, with 35% of Filipino workers anticipating a major impact that could eliminate or significantly transform their careers.
Workers in craft and physical roles express the most concern, with 56% expecting significant changes to their roles. Meanwhile, those in technical or engineering roles are less worried, with only 28-30% expecting AI to significantly impact their jobs.
In response to potential AI-driven job changes, over 70% of Filipino workers are willing to reskill to stay relevant, with 24% planning to do so only if necessary. Top reskilling focuses include analytical and functional/job-specific skills, with many Filipinos favoring videos and self-study as learning methods.
As AI adoption continues to rise, Jobstreet by SEEK recommends that employers shift from traditional training to exploring strategic upskilling and reskilling practices. It also recommends enhancing GenAI adoption through work through specialized training programs and guided learning for employees.
