At the Lei Jun Annual Speech | Xiaomi Launch 2023 held on August 14 in China, Xiaomi unveiled a host of new products, including its latest take on a foldable smartphone: the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 continues the slim and lightweight design of the previous generation. In fact, it’s lighter and thinner than the MIX Fold 2 at 255g, 10.8mm thick when folded, and 5.26mm thick when unfolded (versus 262g, 11.2mm folded, and 5.4mm unfolded).

This can mainly be attributed to the Xiaomi proprietary hinge, which compared to the Micro Waterdrop hinge in the previous generation is 8.6% slimmer when folded and 12.5% slimmer unfolded.

The main structure of the hinge is made of ultra-high strength steel, which has a yield strength of up to 1800MPa, allowing the phone to achieve the TÜV Rheinland Extreme Folding certification for up to 500,000 folds.

Both OLED displays on Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 come with comprehensive protection: the 8.03-inch inner display utilizes UTG (Ultra Thin Glass), while the 6.56-inch outer display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus️ 2.

Like other current Xiaomi premium smartphones, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 is equipped with a Leica-branded camera system. There’s a 50MP Sony IMX800 main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3.2x portrait telephoto camera with OIS, and 10MP 5x periscope telephoto with OIS.

Under the hood of the MIX Fold 3 is a 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. Other features include a 4800mAh battery with USB-C 67W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging support, a 20MP front camera, and MIUI Fold 14 based on Android 13.

In China, the MIX Fold 3 is priced as follows:

  • 12GB+256GB: from RMB 8,999
  • 16GB+512GB: from RMB 9,999
  • 16GB+1TB: from RMB 10,999

There’s no word yet if and when it will be available in the Philippines.
