Yamaha Motor Philippines (YMPH) recently concluded its inaugural PG-1 Film Competition, which showcased the dynamic range of moto-explorations through the lens of Filipino filmmakers.
The competition, which started in August, aimed to inspire filmmakers to create short films that captured the essence of freedom and liberation while riding the Yamaha PG-1. Participants were tasked to produce a three-minute and 30-second film and a movie poster that reflected the theme “Leave it all behind.”
YMPH tapped six filmmakers to participate in the competition, each bringing their unique perspective to the challenge: Motorcycle Cinema, Aaron Palabyab, El Clasico Moto, Moto Stories PH, Mel Cortez, and Joshua Chu.

The competition culminated in an outdoor cinema event at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig this month, where the winning films were announced. YMPH’s new president, Katsuya “Kyle” Iida, was also introduced during the event.

The top four films were selected by a panel of judges composed of international TVC/film directors and commercial photographers:
- Explorers Choice Award: Padaba by Mel Cortez
- Top Film Poster: The Lost Spark by Joshua Chua
- Best Cinematography: Break Free by Motorcycle Cinema
- Best Film: Padaba by Mel Cortez
Cortez received a cash prize of P500,000, a plaque, and accessories, while all participating filmmakers were awarded a PG-1 motorcycle.
