When vehicles in the Philippines reach their end of life, many end up rotting on the roadside or broken down in junkyards, where they’re stripped for parts. This practice, though commonplace, can release harmful chemicals into the environment and put workers at risk.
That’s where a new partnership between Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) and Standard Insurance Co., Inc. comes in.
TMP has officially endorsed Standard Insurance’s Technical and Training Center in Naic, Cavite as the second End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) dismantling facility in the country included in the Toyota Global 100 Dismantlers Project.
The initiative is part of Toyota’s wider effort to promote sustainability through its Environmental Challenge 2050, which includes pushing for more responsible recycling and vehicle lifecycle practices.
Spanning approximately 8,840sqm, the facility can safely dismantle up to six vehicles per day, with an annual average of 850 vehicles—primarily those insured under Standard Insurance. The site is designed to handle harmful automotive materials properly, from oils and refrigerants to plastics, making sure they don’t leak into the soil or waterways.
The new dismantling center follows the launch of the first Toyota-endorsed ELV facility in Mexico, Pampanga last year, and becomes the fifth such site in Southeast Asia to join the Toyota Global 100 Dismantlers Project, a worldwide network focused on minimizing pollution and maximizing resource recovery.
