At MediaTek’s “AI for Life” keynote at MWC 2026, OPPO and MediaTek unveiled new advancements in on-device artificial intelligence, highlighting how their close collaboration is helping accelerate AI deployment on smartphones.
During the presentation, Jason Liao, President of the OPPO Research Institute, explained how the companies’ partnership is pushing AI innovation forward. The event introduced new on-device AI capabilities, updates on the jointly developed Omni Model, and improvements in cross-ecosystem connectivity—showcasing a shared vision for the next generation of AI-powered smartphones.
As mobile technology becomes more AI-driven, OPPO is advancing a strategy built around “New Computing, New Perception, and New Ecosystem.” At its core is “On-device Compute,” which allows AI to run directly on smartphones for faster performance, stronger privacy, and more personalized experiences.
“On-device Compute is a cornerstone of OPPO’s AI strategy, making AI a perceptible, real-time experience integrated into everyday usage,” Liao said.
Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 platform, OPPO’s AI Translate and AI Portrait Glow run directly on the device and deliver performance comparable to cloud-based solutions. They will roll out to the OPPO Find X9 series through the upcoming ColorOS 16 update.
AI Translate improves translation accuracy by an average of 15% while supporting seamless multilingual conversations—even without internet connectivity or in weak signal areas. Meanwhile, AI Portrait Glow enhances portrait photos taken in dim or backlit environments by analyzing and reconstructing scene lighting while keeping images natural-looking.
OPPO and MediTek also previewed Omni, the industry’s first on-device full-modal AI model capable of understanding voice, video, and text inputs. The system enables live scene understanding and interactive Q&A directly on a smartphone.
At the event, attendees were able to explore the OPPO Find X9 Pro and its telephoto imaging with the Hasselblad Teleconverter, as well as the OPPO Reno15 Pro with AI imaging tools like AI Motion Photo Eraser and AI Flash Photography.
OPPO also announced that the Find X9 series will soon support Android Quick Share, developed with Google and MediaTek, allowing secure file transfers between OPPO smartphones and iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices.
OPPO and MediaTek said they will continue expanding their collaboration on on-device AI to deliver more powerful and reliable smartphone experiences worldwide.
