Here’s something that players of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, PUBG Mobile, and other competitive mobile games should get excited about. Infinix is back with an all-new GT series device—the Infinix GT 20 Pro, which is also MPL’s official tournament phone—that promises topnotch gaming experiencethat promises topnotch gaming experience.

Launching officially in the Philippines next week, the GT 20 Pro offers top-tier gaming features and performance courtesy of its Dimensity 8200 Ultimate 4nm 5G processor, Pixelworks X5 Dedicated Gaming Display Chip, 120fps Stable Frame-rate Engine, up to 24GB extended RAM, and 256GB ROM—all for under P16,000.

To add to its street cred, this gaming phone is also the official tournament phone of PMSL (PUBG Mobile Super League Southeast Asia) and several MLBB pro leagues, including MPL Philippines, MAL Malaysia, MDL Indonesia, and MEP Myanmar.

We got our hands on a test unit of the Infinix GT 20 Pro, so here’s a sneak peek and our first impressions of the device’s features and design details.

Badass design

The InfiniX GT 20 Pro’s unboxing experience is a bit more exciting than usual, especially compared to other phones within the same price range. Instead of the usual two-part box, it comes in a cool box that opens like wings.

Inside, we have a 45W adapter, a Type-A to Type-C cable, a SIM ejector tool, and the usual guides and manuals. Infinix adds a stylish back cover that highlights the rear design of the GT 20 Pro and a quality screen guard with application tools.

And then there’s the Infinix GT 20 Pro unit itself with a “Cyber Mecha” design that sets it apart from other devices in its category. Our phone comes in Mecha Blue, but users can also get it in Mecha Orange or Mecha Silver.

The design gives the phone a 3D-like, transparent metal look. A rectangular protruded module houses the main camera system in the upper half of the rear panel. The Mecha Loop Lighting system, a C-shaped RGB lighting at the back, offers eight color combinations and four lighting effects that can be assigned for gaming, music, charging, calls, and notifications.

While the design of the phone may not be for everyone, it surely is a head-turner and fits well into the gamer aesthetic. Note that the body of the Infinix GT 20 Pro is plastic and can be prone to fingerprint smudges. Still, it feels solid to hold because there’s some weight to it and the boxy form factor with curved edges allows for comfortable handling.

Good game

Flip to the front and we have the 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2436px Full HD+ resolution. The almost bezel-less screen allows the phone to achieve a 94.3% screen-to-body ratio, translating to a more immersive viewing experience. Meanwhile, navigation is smooth for basic tasks and games since this phone offers up to 144Hz maximum refresh rate.

Color reproduction on the Infinix GT 20 Pro’s display is excellent. Image quality is clear and vibrant, while text appears crisp all throughout. With a peak brightness of 1300 nits, we did not have any issues using the phone outdoors or under bright lighting conditions. According to Infinix, this device also offers HDR support on YouTube and Netflix.

Infinix fitted the GT 20 Pro with JBL-tuned dual stereo speakers to complement the display. Overall, the sound is clear and loud enough. There is no headphone jack here, so a Bluetooth headset is your alternative.

Out of the box, this Infinix gaming device runs on XOS 14, which is based on Android 14. We really love that there is no bloatware here and has only minimal pre-installed Infinix apps, which can easily be deleted. According to Infinix, the OS comes with two years of major Android updates and three years of security patches.

The phone also has an on-screen fingerprint sensor, which is accurate and unlocks quickly.

For the camera, the triple rear setup features a 108-megapixel main sensor with OIS, a 2MP depth camera, and a 2MP macro camera. A 32MP shooter is available at the front.

Both front and rear cameras produce sharp and detailed photos, but they sometimes come out a little bit too bright.

Well-played

The Infinix GT 20 Pro delivers a combo attack with its hardware and software boosted for gaming.

It comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate 4nm 5G processor, Pixelworks X5 Dedicated Gaming Display Chip, 120FPS Stable Frame-rate Engine, and 12GB LPDDR5X RAM (up to 24GB extended). These work together to allow the phone to provide a smooth and hitch-free gaming experience. Furthermore, it allows the GT 20 Pro to support up to 120fps for MLBB and  Genshin Impact and up to 90fps for PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile.

The X-Boost Gaming Mode offers quick on/off functions such as Ultra Frame Rate, Smart Cooling, Tilt Control, and HDR Graphics. Meanwhile, the 256GB UFS 3.1 ROM internal storage should provide enough space for large apps and plenty of files.

A 5000mAh battery is also a solid feature to have, especially for a gaming phone. It lasted us for a full day of mixed use, including gaming and day-to-day tasks with RGB lighting and 144Hz refresh rate turned on. The fast-charging capability also works without any issues.

All these are great on paper, but do these translate in real-life usage? Based on our experience so far, it’s a resounding yes! The Infinix GT 20 Pro has shown excellent performance in the few days we’ve used it. Basic tasks like opening and switching between apps, downloading updates, and social media browsing (even when multitasking) are always a smooth process. The gaming performance is also impressive; we were able to run demanding games on high graphics settings without any lags or stutters.
