The Xiaomi 17T series, which includes the 17T Pro and the 17T, packs several premium features such as Leica-powered telephoto photography, Leica Live Moment, eye-friendly displays, and large batteries designed to keep up with busy days.
We recently spent some time with the Xiaomi 17T, and despite being the more accessible option in the lineup, it quickly proved that it’s far from a watered-down experience. In fact, its performance and overall feature set make it a surprisingly capable smartphone for work, entertainment, gaming, and content creation.
Design and build
The Xiaomi 17T strikes a nice balance between premium design and everyday practicality. Xiaomi has kept the design clean and understated, avoiding flashy elements in favor of a sleek flat-frame construction and a matte finish that does a great job of hiding fingerprints.
Despite a large battery and a prominent camera module, the phone remains comfortable to hold thanks to its slim 8.17mm profile. At 200g, there’s some heft, but it never feels overly heavy even during extended use.
The Opal White colorway of our review unit is eye-catching, with subtle iridescent highlights that shimmer under the light. Responsive buttons, well-placed ports, and IP68 dust and water resistance make the Xiaomi 17T feel like a thoughtfully designed device built for daily use.
Camera
The Xiaomi 17T’s biggest selling point is undoubtedly its Leica-tuned camera system, and after spending time with it, it’s easy to see why Xiaomi is calling it a “telephoto master.”
The triple-camera setup consists of a 50MP main camera, a 50MP 5x telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera, with a 32MP selfie shooter up front.
For everyday photography, the main camera is a reliable performer. It captures sharp details, pleasing colors, and excellent dynamic range, especially in good lighting. Leica’s color science helps give photos a more natural and cinematic look, avoiding the overly processed appearance that many smartphones still struggle with. Whether using Leica Vibrant or Leica Authentic, images have a distinct character that feels closer to what you’d expect from a dedicated camera.
The real star of the show, though, is the 50MP 5x telephoto camera. Not many phones in this price range offer a dedicated 5x optical zoom lens, and once you start using it, it’s hard to go back. Whether you’re shooting a distant landmark, capturing candid moments from afar, or simply trying to get closer to your subject without physically moving, the telephoto camera delivers impressive detail without the usual loss in quality. Leica’s tuning also helps photos look natural and refined, with rich colors and sharp details that don’t feel overprocessed.
Leica Live Moment is also a welcome addition, adding subtle motion to photos and making captured memories feel more alive.
Display and audio
The phone’s 6.59-inch AMOLED display is a pleasure to use. The 1.5K resolution keeps everything looking sharp, while the 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling, gaming, and everyday navigation feel smooth and responsive.
Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support also enhance movies and videos with vibrant colors and excellent contrast. One feature I particularly appreciate is the display’s brightness. Even under direct sunlight, the screen remains easy to see when taking photos, checking maps, or replying to messages.
The stereo speakers are decent for casual viewing and gaming, though the audio can sound a little thin at times. You don’t get much bass or midrange depth, although this will suffice for everyday listening.
Performance and battery
The Xiaomi 17T feels smooth in everyday use, thanks to the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra chip paired with 12GB of RAM. Multitasking, switching between apps, and doing some light gaming all run quickly and without hiccups.
On the software side, HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 keeps things clean and responsive, with useful additions such as Google Gemini integration and Circle to Search. Navigation feels fluid, apps open fast, and the interface is easy to get around. There is a bit of pre-installed bloatware out of the box, but most of it can be removed or disabled, so it doesn’t get in the way for long.
Battery life is another strong point of the Xiaomi 17T. The 6500mAh cell easily lasts a full day of heavy use, and can even stretch into a second day with lighter routines. Charging is just as impressive, with 67W fast charging getting you powered up to 100% in about an hour.

At P33,999 for the 12GB+256GB variant and P37,999 for the 12GB+512GB variant, the Xiaomi 17T makes a strong case for itself as a well-rounded mid-to-upper tier device that doesn’t feel like a compromise. It brings together Leica-powered cameras, a smooth AMOLED display, solid performance, and excellent battery life in a package that feels more premium than its price suggests. Overall, it’s an easy recommendation if you want flagship-like features without stepping into flagship pricing.
