As someone who works from home full-time, writes for a living, and juggles motherhood in between deadlines, silence is a luxury—and good sound is survival. My days are a mash-up of calls, the low, persistent hum of the air-conditioning, the occasional honking car outside, and early-morning jogs where my playlist needs to hype me up without completely disconnecting me from the world.

Enter the HUAWEI FreeBuds 7i, which—spoiler alert—might just be one of the most impressive ANC earbuds you can get under P5,000.

At first glance, the FreeBuds 7i don’t scream “new,” especially if you’ve seen their predecessors. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Available in black, white, and pink, they keep that clean, minimalist HUAWEI look that fits right in whether you’re wearing athleisure or heading out for coffee meetings. The earbuds themselves are incredibly light—just 5.4g per ear—which makes a huge difference when you’re wearing them for hours. I’m not a big fan of the glossy finish on the buds and case, though. They’re slippery and visually don’t feel as premium as the rest of the package.

When it comes to comfort, these buds are easy to live with. HUAWEI includes four sets of silicone ear tips, and once you get the right fit, they sit securely without that annoying pressure build-up. This snug seal also helps with passive noise isolation even before you turn ANC on. Add the IP54 rating, and you’ve got earbuds that can handle sweat, light rain, and dusty city commutes without drama.

Once you put them on, you immediately notice how well they block out the world. The Intelligent Dynamic ANC 4.0 is the real hero here, offering noise cancellation of up to 55dB. In practical terms, this means the low drone of my aircon fades away, traffic noise softens, and even working in a noisy café feels manageable. HUAWEI claims this is a 30% improvement over the previous generation, and in daily use, it genuinely feels effective—especially with consistent, low-frequency noise.

Sound quality is another area where the FreeBuds 7i punch well above their price. Powered by 11mm quad-magnet dynamic drivers, the audio comes across clean and well-balanced. Vocals are clear with plenty of detail, although bass lovers may find the low end a little more restrained than expected. That said, the overall tuning still works well for long listening sessions.

Support for LDAC and Hi-Res Audio Wireless makes a noticeable difference when streaming higher-quality tracks, and the 10-band EQ lets you add a bit more punch when you want.

One of the most fun features is Unlimited Spatial Audio with head tracking. Thanks to the built-in six-axis motion sensor, sound feels wider and more immersive—almost like it’s wrapping around you. Watching videos or listening to live sessions feels cinematic, and the best part is that this works across both Android and iOS.

Calls are where these earbuds really prove their worth for work-from-home life. With three microphones plus an AI bone-conduction mic, the FreeBuds 7i can cancel out up to 90dB of background noise. I’ve taken calls while cars were passing outside and while my dog was staging a very determined treat protest at the door, and my voice still came through clear and steady. It’s the kind of reliability you don’t realize you need—until you have it.

Controls are intuitive and customizable. The FreeBuds 7i feature the same touch gesture controls as their predecessors: touch-and-hold, double tap, triple tap, and swipe gestures for volume adjustment. Everything can be personalized inside the Huawei AI Life app, so you can set the controls exactly how you want them. The touch panels are responsive without being overly sensitive.

On the more playful side, HUAWEI also added head motion controls. You can nod to answer a call or shake your head to reject it—a bit gimmicky, but surprisingly useful when your hands are busy typing or holding coffee. It’s one of those features you don’t think you’ll use until you actually do.

During my morning jogs, I usually switch off full ANC so I can stay aware of my surroundings, and the FreeBuds 7i make this easy. The fit stays secure even when I’m moving, and the sound remains engaging without completely blocking out the world. I can enjoy my playlist, hear my footsteps, and still be aware if a cyclist or car is nearby.

Battery life is solid, too. With up to 35 hours total playback including the case, I can go days without charging. The case charges via USB-C—no wireless charging here, but at this price point, that’s an easy trade-off.

Speed says

The HUAWEI FreeBuds 7i are proof that premium audio doesn’t have to come with a premium price tag. With industry-leading ANC at 55dB, spatial audio with head tracking, exceptional call clarity, and a lightweight, stylish design, they stand out as a portable audio powerhouse under P5,000.

The HUAWEI FreeBuds 7i are officially launching in the Philippines on February 2 and will be available at the HUAWEI Online Store and HUAWEI’s official stores on Shopee, Lazada, and TIkTok
