1. Check charging station availability and status. Preparation is key when weather changes suddenly. Check the availability and status of charging stations before heading out. Through the Evro app, you can locate over 240 Department of Energy-registered public charging stations nationwide, monitor real-time station status, and even manage sessions and payments. This helps ensure smoother trips despite unpredictable weather.
2. Know your car’s charging guidelines. Every EV comes with specific charging procedures and compatibility requirements. Review the manual and avoid charging in flooded areas, which can compromise both safety and vehicle performance. If the car has been exposed to floodwaters, inspect for water entry in the charging port, undercarriage, or cabin, and check for warning lights before plugging in.
Heat is another factor to watch. After long drives under high temperatures, allow the EV to cool before charging to prevent battery strain. When in doubt, consult an authorized service center.
3. Use the right charger. Matching the charger to the vehicle is essential. Adapters or extension cords should never be used, as they pose fire and damage risks.
