For Filipino families juggling school, work, errands, and daily commutes, having teenagers travel independently can make life easier—but it can also leave parents wondering if they got where they needed to go safely.

Grab Philippines introduced Grab for Family to address that balance, allowing teenagers aged 13 to 17 to book rides independently while giving parents and guardians real-time visibility into their journeys and additional safety controls.

The feature came as Grab Family Accounts gained traction among Filipino households, with sign-ups more than doubling over the past year. Family members who joined an account also took about 70% more rides in their first month, highlighting the growing role of shared mobility in everyday family routines.

With Grab for Family, once a teen is linked to a Family Account, parents can receive trip updates, follow the ride on a live map, communicate with the teen and driver, and access safety tools throughout the journey.

One of the feature’s key tools is Live Ride Tracking, which allows parents to monitor a trip without repeatedly calling or messaging their teen. Automated notifications provide updates when a driver is assigned, vehicle details become available, the passenger is picked up, the destination is reached, and the trip is completed.

Parents can also receive alerts about unexpected stops or route deviations, while in-app prompts can check in with passengers to help confirm their safety.

Grab for Family also includes Ride PIN, which requires the passenger and driver to match a unique code before the trip begins. Through 3-Way Chat, parents can also join the conversation between the teen and driver to clarify pickup points, landmarks, or other trip details.

Another safety feature, AudioProtect, enables encrypted audio recording on both the passenger’s and driver’s devices. Recordings can only be reviewed by Grab’s safety team when a formal report is submitted.

Parents can activate Grab for Family through the existing Grab app by inviting a teen using their mobile number or a unique invitation link. Once the teen accepts, the parent can approve the request and identify the account as belonging to a teen, activating the relevant safety features.

“As a Grab driver-partner and a mother myself, I understand how important it is for parents to feel assured that their children are safe whenever they use ride-hailing services,” said Lisza Buscaino-Redulla, President of the United Transportation Coalition Philippines, Inc. “Many families rely on platforms like Grab for the daily commutes of their teenage children, which is why we welcome the introduction of the Family Account as an important step toward giving parents assurance that their children get to wherever they need to be safely.”
