As traffic builds and demand spikes this holiday season, Grab Philippines is strengthening its commitment to maintain accessible ride-hailing and food delivery services. Key initiatives include deeper partnerships and enhanced shared mobility options such as Grab Group Rides to help address the anticipated supply crunch.

According to Grab data, worsening traffic is extending trip completion times by 20 to 25% during peak hours, reducing the number of trips TNVS drivers can complete in a day. This slowdown, combined with a projected 36% spike in fourth-quarter ride-hailing demand, is straining the available supply of vehicles.

To address these challenges, Grab is working closely with New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), operator of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, to minimize pick-up bottlenecks at key terminals—one of the city’s biggest demand hotspots. The company is also coordinating with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and LTFRB to help ensure sufficient transport options throughout the season.

“This holiday season will be a challenge, as in previous years. We are facing a slew of macroeconomic factors, from an uptick in holiday demand that challenges the supply of vehicles to the traffic conditions of the metro,” said Grab Philippines Managing Director Ronald Roda.

“There will be moments when getting a ride feels harder than usual, but we promise to do our absolute best to be better than last year. We have been preparing since the start of the year to ensure our services remain accessible enough to help every Filipino make their holiday celebration complete,” he added.

Central to Grab’s preparations is its expanded partnership with NNIC. With airport ride-hailing demand up over 30 percent this year, Grab will deploy free airport shuttles from NAIA Terminal 3 to One Ayala during peak booking hours—4pm to 1am—on December 5-8, 12-16, and 19-22. Grab has also boosted its round-the-clock Terminal 3 concierge to accommodate more passengers.

Grab is likewise piloting its DOTr-backed “Sabay Sakay” carpooling service, consolidating bookings along the Pasig-Makati and Pasig-BGC corridors to improve seat utilization where ride supply is low.

To maximize the existing fleet, Grab is promoting Group Rides, which allows up to four passengers to share a single vehicle with individually set pick-up and drop-off points. Grab’s routing algorithm links all stops efficiently, boosting driver productivity and stretching limited supply during the rush.

On the food delivery front, Grab is rolling out Party Platters, a feature that streamlines bulk holiday orders by distributing them among multiple riders—ensuring smooth fulfillment even as demand peaks.

Finally, Grab is reinforcing service quality through refresher training for driver-partners via Grab Academy, focusing on passenger handling, safety, and service decorum. These initiatives, the company says, are crucial in ensuring a reliable, respectful, and driver-supported service during one of the busiest periods of the year.
