More than 15 years after launching the Chromebook, Google is introducing Googlebook, a new laptop category designed around Gemini-powered artificial intelligence.
Googlebook combines the Chrome browser, apps from Google Play, and a modern operating system built to make AI assistance a core part of everyday computing. Google said the new laptops are designed to work seamlessly with other devices while offering a more personalized and intuitive experience.
One of the more interesting features Google is showing off is Magic Pointer, which basically turns your cursor into a smart assistant. Built with the Google DeepMind team, it uses Gemini AI to recognize what you’re looking at and offer quick shortcuts or suggestions. Point at a date to create a calendar event, or drag together photos of your room and furniture to preview how they match.
Googlebook also comes with Create your Widget, a tool that lets users build personalized widgets simply by typing what they need. Using Gemini, the feature can pull information from the web and connect with apps like Gmail and Calendar to create a custom dashboard. For example, someone planning a family reunion can keep flight details, hotel bookings, restaurant reservations, and countdowns all in one place.
The laptops are also optimized for the Android ecosystem, allowing users to access phone apps directly from their Googlebook without downloads or touchscreen emulation. Through Quick Access, files stored on Android phones can also be viewed and searched directly from the laptop’s file browser.
Google said it is partnering with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to develop the first Googlebooks. The laptops will feature premium materials, different form factors, and a signature “glowbar” designed to be both stylish and functional.
