Nissan Philippines has taken the wraps off its latest subcompact SUV—a vehicle that marks another milestone in Nissan’s expansion of its electrified vehicle lineup.

Behold, the all-new Nissan Kicks e-POWER—the first Nissan e-POWER model to reach our shores. It’s equipped with the brand’s new electrified powertrain that’s unlike any conventional hybrid system.

So, what makes the Kicks e-POWER an electrifying subcompact SUV? Here are the five things you should know about this thrilling new ride:

1. Powerful yet smooth

Under the hood of the Kicks e-POWER is Nissan’s e-POWER technology, which combines a gasoline engine and electric motor (similar as the one used in the Nissan LEAF). Unlike a regular parallel hybrid system wherein both the engine and electric motor work together in unison to move a vehicle, the e-POWER system works differently.

The Kicks e-POWER has a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine but its only use is to charge the vehicle’s lithium-ion batteries. These batteries power the 349V electric motor, which is capable of putting out 134hp and 280Nm of torque, which is sent to the front wheels.

The result? A ride that’s both fuel efficient and powerful, while also being quieter than a traditional gasoline-powered car. Plus, the Kicks e-POWER is equipped with regenerative braking, which further adds to the vehicle’s amazing fuel efficiency.

Another notable feature of the Kicks e-POWER is the e-Pedal Step, which lets you enjoy an easy and comfortable drive with a one-pedal feeling coming from just using the accelerator pedal to start, speed up, or slow down to a crawl.

2. Sharp styling

Styling matters, of course, and the Nissan Kicks e-POWER is one of the better-looking subcompact SUVs out there.

It comes with a sleek, black, double V-Motion grille flanked by a pair of LED headlamps. The stylish rear end features LED taillamps connected by a strong horizontal line that emphasizes the vehicle’s wide rear structure.

The Kicks e-POWER wears two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels shod in 205/55 R17 tires.

3. Comfortable and spacious cabin

Because you’ll be spending more time inside the vehicle than admiring it from the outside, the interior needs to be comfortable and provide you with the resources you need.

Thankfully, Nissan has equipped the Kicks e-POWER with the brand’s Zero Gravity front seats. These ergonomically designed seats alleviate fatigue for drivers and passengers thanks to their unique shape and patented structure that provide continuous support from your hips all the way up to your shoulders. The seats can be had with either leather or fabric, depending on the variant. There’s also plenty of headroom and shoulder space both in front and at the back.

And speaking of the back, you get 470 liters of cargo room with the 60:40 split rear seats upright and a whopping 835 liters with those down.

Except for the base variant, the Nissan Kicks e-POWER also gets an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. You also get 4 or 6 speakers (depending on the variant), a 7-inch color TFT display, a 12V power socket, and Type-A and Type-C USB ports for your power needs.

4. Smart features

To keep its occupants safe, Nissan Kicks e-POWER comes with driver and front passenger SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist, and hill-start assist as standard.

Meanwhile, the mid- and top-spec variants are equipped with Nissan Intelligent Mobility package, which brings with it Intelligent Forward Collision Warning with Intelligent Emergency Braking and Driver Attention Alert. The top-of-the-line VL variant also gets an Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection.
