When French mobile tech brand WIKO officially landed in the Philippines last June, it brought with it its first two offerings in the country: the budget-friendly WIKO T10 and the midrange T50.
We got our hands on the WIKO T50 in a classic colorway: Midnight Black. If you prefer your phone more colorful, then this phone is also available in Aqua Green and Lively Pink.
Because it’s made of plastic, the T50 is light but still pretty solid in the hand. We would have preferred a matte—or at least textured—finish though, because the glossy back panel is just one big smudge magnet.
The right edge of the phone houses the volume rocker and the power button-slash-fingerprint scanner. The left side is left clean.
At the bottom are the USB-C port, speaker grille, and SIM tray, while the 3.5mm headphone jack is located on top.
The T50 features a 6.6-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080) screen that can display 16.7 million colors. It has a 20:9 aspect ratio and is surrounded by narrow bezels.
The IPS panel is bright enough for daytime use, but we advise not to use it under direct sunlight because you’ll be struggling to read what’s on your screen.
Another downside is that it’s only a 60Hz display, whereas some phones in this price range already have at least 90Hz.
The WIKO T50 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G85 processor paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The chip is two years old (it was released in 2020), but it still performs pretty well on the T50, which runs on Android 11. Apps launch fast and we experienced no lags during our time with it.
As for its shooters, the T50 has a triple-rear camera system composed of a 64MP f/1.9 main camera, 8MP f/2.4 ultrawide camera with a 120-degree field of view, and a 2MP f/2.4 macro shooter. In front is a 16MP selfie camera housed in a punch hole.
The photos we took under good lighting conditions came out sharp and had good color reproduction. Bokeh shots also came out nice with good edge detection.
If there’s one thing WIKO could work on, it’s the camera UI, which is not very intuitive.
The T50 is equipped with a 4000mAh battery that lasted us a day of moderate use thanks to the 60Hz screen refresh rate and efficient CPU. It supports 40W wired charging, which fully charges the battery in about two hours.
Overall, the WIKO T50 is an attractive smartphone with a large display, thin bezels, decent camera, good performance, and ample memory and storage. However, at P11,990, some might find this phone a bit lacking given that there are other brands that offer more for the the same price, or have the same functionality but with a more affordable price.
