Shopping may be part of our daily routine, but the choices we make at checkout can leave a lasting impact on the environment. Something as simple as bringing a reusable bag can help reduce waste while supporting a meaningful cause.

That’s the idea behind Watsons Philippines’ BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) campaign. Customers who opt for a paper bag during checkout will pay P1.00, with every peso donated to the Give A Smile Program for free cleft surgeries.

The move follows Watsons’ earlier phaseout of plastic shopping bags across its stores, marking another step in the company’s sustainability efforts.

“Thousands of shoppers visit Watsons for health and beauty essentials daily. By introducing BYOB,  we want to encourage a simple shift in behavior. We want to make bringing reusable bags or putting smaller items in their bags a part of the shopping routine. Small choices like this may seem insignificant on their own, but we are actually helping reduce paper waste that ends up in our landfills and clogs waterways,” said Danilo S. Chiong, Managing Director of Watsons Philippines.

Since launching in 2013, the Give A Smile Program has helped provide cleft care and treatment to 2,689 Filipino children. Every peso collected from paper bag purchases will go directly to the initiative, allowing Watsons to support even more children while encouraging customers to make environmentally responsible choices.
