Smartphones have made it easy for anyone to take pictures whenever, wherever. They’re compact enough to slip into pockets, slide inside a bag, or carry by hand. Moreover, capturing photos takes only a few swipes and taps.

vivo levels up the experience by offering not just a phone that captures photos on the go, but a device that produces studio quality-like snaps.

Read on as we share our experience with the sleek and stylish vivo V27 5G.

Design & construction

This phone looks really good. From its slim profile and curved display to the elegant finish and glass panel at back, everything on the V27 5G screams premium. Our review unit comes in the Emerald Green colorway, which stands out with its marble-like and color-shifting  (from dark to light green) rear panel.

Design accents are also kept to a minimum. Buttons and ports are ergonomically positioned throughout the device. Again, you only see the vivo branding at the back and a silver camera module with three lenses and a built-in mini ring light.

Overall, handling this phone is easy and intuitive. We love how it looks—subtle in style but eye-catching nonetheless. The rear is not a fingerprint magnet despite the glossy finish.

Display & multimedia

Like its predecessor, the vivo V27 5G flaunts a curved AMOLED display with a punch-hole notch for the selfie camera. What’s different is that the screen on this new model is bigger at 6.78 inches.

There’s a lot to love about the V27 5G’s display: the colors are vibrant with deep blacks and the resolution is up to Full HD with crisp details. Moreover, the viewing angles are great and the screen stays bright even under harsh lighting conditions. Watching videos is truly a delight on this phone.

vivo also equipped the display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, which is helpful when you love to play graphics-intensive and fast-paced games. The curved edges shouldn’t pose a problem when you navigate on the screen while holding the phone vertically or horizontally.

An in-display fingerprint sensor is also available for quick unlocking of the phone. Based on our experience, it is pretty quick and accurate.

One of the things we want to improve on this phone is the speaker. The single, down-firing speaker produces decent sound but it doesn’t give justice to the massive, gorgeous screen of the vivo V27 5G.

Cameras

Perhaps the major selling point of the vivo V27 5G is its camera system. The new vivo model upgrades to a 50MP IMX766V sensor for the main camera, alongside the 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro lenses. It has both OIS and EIS for clear image and video output. Take note that this hardware was only available before in the flagship X60.

That said, photos come out well regardless of lighting conditions. They have almost true-to-life colors and the details are rich, especially for those taken under a well-lit environment. There’s the Night mode if you want almost fail-safe shots when it’s dark. The quality of the ultrawide and macro shots suffers a little when in low light, but they’re still decent enough.

Complementing the powerful cameras is the ring-shaped LED flash that vivo calls Aura Light. This, aided by some software enhancement dubbed Aura Portrait Algorithm, produces soft lighting when taking portraits versus the typical harsh flash we get from other phones.

The 50MP selfie shooter is equally great. What I love here is that their default “beauty” mode doesn’t alter your face too much. You can see some improvements but nothing too drastic. Of course, there’s an option to adjust the beauty settings. The camera app also includes various filters and modes for fun and creative self-portraits

If you’re into vlogging or producing videos for social media, the front camera is capable of shooting 4K or stabilized Full HD footage.

Here are some sample photos with the vivo V27 5G:

Performance

The vivo V27 5G comes powered by a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7200 octa-core processor. It has 256GB built-in storage and 12GB RAM with 8GB dynamic RAM. It runs on vivo’s FunTouchOS based on Android 13.

As expected with those specs, the phone is able to run demanding apps with ease. Playing graphics-intensive games can sometimes be a bit too much, so you can dial down the settings. But for the most part, this phone can play at max settings. The overall experience—switching apps, browsing, etc.—is smooth and snappy. Plus, you can run multiple tasks at the same time without any hitch.

Additionally, the 4600mAh battery is more than enough to power the phone for one whole day. Plus, the 66W fast-charging capabilities allow charging up to 100% in under 40 minutes.

Speed says

The vivo V27 5G brings just the right amount of updates to turn it from a typical camera phone into a great photography device. The Aura Light Portrait system offers the much-needed features that allow this smartphone to take quality images anywhere, anytime. On top of that, the vivo V27 5G delivers a standout style and performance.
