Wondering whether an EV can really save you money over time? VinFast’s new web-based Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator lets Filipino buyers compare the estimated lifetime ownership costs of an EV with those of a comparable gas-powered vehicle.

Available through VinFast’s website, the tool factors in variables including monthly mileage, energy or fuel costs, financing payments, maintenance expenses, battery ownership option, and expected ownership period. Users can select a VinFast model and enter their driving habits to generate an estimated monthly and lifetime ownership cost.

For example, a buyer in the Philippines selecting a VinFast VF 7 Plus with a battery subscription, driving 2,000 kilometers per month over five years, would see an estimated TCO of P1,884,890. Under the same conditions, the calculator estimates that an ICE vehicle would cost P3,156,240 over the same timeframe.

That equals a massive potential savings of P1,271,350 or about 40%—although actual costs will vary depending on vehicle choice, driving patterns, energy and fuel prices, financing terms, and other ownership expenses.

The tool comes as fuel and transportation costs remain a consideration for Filipino motorists. A 2026 consumer study by Agile Data Solutions found that one in six Filipinos is considering an EV or hybrid vehicle, with rising fuel and transport expenses among the factors influencing consumer interest.

VinFast says the calculator is designed to highlight the longer-term economics of EV ownership. This includes the potential difference in energy and maintenance expenses over several years—costs that can be overlooked when consumers focus primarily on a vehicle’s upfront price and specifications.
