Online shopping giant Shopee is urging users to stay alert against task and prize scams, as fraudsters continue to find new ways to deceive unsuspecting individuals through SMS and messaging apps.

Two of the most common scams targeting online users are task scams and prize scams, both designed to trick individuals into financial losses.

Task scammers often impersonate representatives from Shopee Mall or Shopee’s HR Recruitment Team, offering fake part-time or full-time job opportunities. Victims are assigned simple tasks at first to build trust, but soon, they are asked to transfer money with false promises of high financial rewards.

Meanwhile, prize scammers would send messages containing malicious links that entice users to claim a supposed prize or reward from a company-sponsored contest. When users click these links and enter their personal details, scammers can steal sensitive information—such as names, addresses, and bank details—potentially leading to financial theft or extortion.

Shopee is committed to providing a safe and secure online experience. To help users avoid falling victim to scams, here are some key safety reminders:

  • Shopee never asks for money in exchange for job opportunities. All legitimate job postings are available only on the official Shopee Careers page.
  • Shopee does not send prize claim links via SMS or messaging apps. Official winners are announced only within the Shopee app or on Shopee’s verified pages and channels.
  • Never share personal details with unknown senders. This includes your name, address, contact number, bank details, PIN, OTP, and passwords.
  • Keep transactions within the Shopee app. This ensures secure payments, order tracking, and access to Shopee’s buyer protection.

Shopee urges users to report suspicious activities involving its name. If you receive fraudulent messages, take a screenshot of the message and the contact details and report it to the Shopee Cares Facebook Page or to Shopee’s Customer Service via the Shopee app.
