E-commerce giant Shopee has taken significant steps to ensure the safety and security of online shoppers by teaming up with the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The partnership was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU), emphasizing a shared commitment to public safety during online transactions.

This initiative focuses on two key components aimed at fortifying the online shopping experience. The first one is a proactive approach to prevent the sale of police-related items on the platform and ensure that these items are not misused or made available for illegal purposes.

Second is an educational campaign to empower Shopee users with the knowledge and skills to identify and address online scams.

Vincent Lee, Head of Shopee Philippines, underscored the company’s unwavering commitment to user safety, stating, “Our partnership with the PNP reflects our dedication to making the shopping experience secure and rewarding for our users. We are fully committed to protecting our users and equipping them with the knowledge to identify and defend themselves against potential online threats.”

Shopee is taking steps to keep users safe from scams, with features like a buyer protection program for refunds on counterfeit or defective items. Partnering with the PNP is a substantial step forward in the platform’s endeavor to enhance its efforts in educating users about preventing online scams.
