ASUS’ search for the incredible began in 1998 when the very first ASUS laptop—the P6300—was taken aboard the Mir space station. The P6300 survived several power outages and fires, surviving 600 days onboard with zero defects. Fast forward to today, the brand continues to explore the unknown by pushing the quality and capabilities of its machines.

The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition (UX5401ZAS) commemorates the brand’s inspiring past while giving users a glimpse of its future. We got our hands on a review unit of the special edition laptop, and here’s a quick look at this device:

A space-worthy package

Users are in for a ride when they get their hands on the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition.

Space travel is the central theme of this laptop’s design, and it all starts with the packaging. The boxes come with a reflective finish, space-themed patterns, and large “Space Edition” text engravings.

The bubble envelope—which contains the manual, other documents, and free stickers—as well as the free laptop sleeve all come in silver, which gives it a futuristic look.

Out-of-this-world theme

Then, there’s the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition itself. The machine sports a stunning Zero-G Titanium finish, which is again a homage to the material widely used in spacecraft.

The cover and wrist rest feature a pattern of the Mir station. It is made of arc lines that symbolize a space capsule and morse codes that translate to “Ad Astra Per Aspera” or “Through the hardships to the stars.”

Another unique design on this laptop is the exclusive ZenVision, a 3.5-inch OLED monochrome display found on the lid. This external smart screen displays space-themed animations, date, and time by default, but you can also customize it as you wish.

Mission: Incredible

Powered up, the ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition greets its user with the frameless NanoEdge OLED panel. Its 92% screen-to-body ratio and 2.8K resolution promise immersive viewing of the digital world. The display also boasts a 90Hz refresh rate and 0.2ms response time. A Dolby Atmos and Harman Kardon-certified sound system complements the display.

The laptop features a full-sized ASUS ErgoSense Keyboard. Meanwhile, the ErgoSense trackpad doubles as a number pad if needed. The power button also doubles as a fingerprint sensor for a secure and instant log-in.

There are also plenty of useful I/O ports on this device despite the slim form factor. On the left are two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C and an HDMI 2.0. On the right are a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, a microSD reader, and an audio combo jack.

Under the hood are the new 12th-generation Intel Core i5 H-Series processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD storage. Out of the box, this Zenbook already runs the latest Windows 11 Home operating system. A 63Whr lithium-polymer battery powers this machine.
