Samsung has launched its fifth generation of foldable smartphones—the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5—at the second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year.

Both foldable devices are carefully designed to be highly durable. They feature a shock dispersion layer, redesigned back, IPX8 support, Armor Aluminum frames, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for added protection. The new Flex Hinge with its dual rail structure diffuses external impacts, enhancing overall durability.

The Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 are now available for pre-order until August 17 and will be available in physical and online stores on August 18.

Galaxy Z Flip5

The biggest and most obvious change in the Galaxy Z Flip5 is its bigger cover display. The new Flex Window now measures 3.4-inches, which is 3.78 times larger than the previous generation. This 60Hz Super AMOLED display provides more customization options, including graphical clocks, custom images, videos, and stylish frames. You can also check the weather, control music playback, check notifications, and even reply to texts without opening the device.

Flip the phone open and you’ll be greeted by a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Peak brightness has increased by more than 30%, up to 1750 nits, for an optimal viewing experience outdoors even under bright sunlight.

The Z Flip5 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and comes equipped with dual rear cameras (12MP wide main + 12MP ultrawide), a 10MP selfie shooter, and a 3700mAh battery with 25W USB-C charging.

Galaxy Z Fold5

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 comes with a 7.6-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 1750 nits of peak brightness. Its cover screen, on the other hand, is a 6.2-inch HD+Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. Both are protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Like its clamshell sibling, the Z Fold5 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. It comes with a 10MP camera on the cover and a 4MP under-display camera, as well as a triple rear camera system (50MP wide + 12MP ultrawide + 10MP telephoto.

Keeping the lights on is a 4400mAh battery with 25W wired fast charging via USB-C. There’s also wireless charging but still unspecified in terms of wattage.

There’s still no integrated S Pen on the Fold5, but the new S Pen for this new-gen foldable is much thinner than earlier designs and now slots in seamlessly at the back of the Slim S Pen Case.
