Ease of use and practicality
The Legion Slim 5i is by no means the thinnest or lightest gaming laptop in the market. But in the context of typical bulky gaming laptops, its diminutive footprint is to be admired. Given how much hardware is crammed within a confined space, Lenovo did well in striking a balance between size and weight (2.4kg). It’s a little bit on the plus side, but it did not take away from the joy of using the device.
The Lenovo Legion Slim 5i feels nice to the touch. The keyboard, which arguably gets the most physical interaction, is tactile. The keys are sufficiently sized and spaced, and do not require much effort to press. Have I mentioned the keyboard is nicely backlit as well? All these help reduce hand fatigue, which is much appreciated especially after hours of prolonged use.
No mouse? No problem. Complementing the keyboard is a responsive multi-touch enabled trackpad that works without a hitch.
And the high resolution 16-inch IPS screen? Just gorgeous. Colors pop. Details are sharp. The screen can get plenty bright without being painful to look at, and the anti-glare and low blue light feature further help reduce eye strain. With its near bezel-less design, the screen almost feels like it’s floating in front of you.
Spending much time with this laptop for hours on end was a blast. I may have ninety-nine problems, but sore hands and strained eyes ain’t one of them. With fewer things to get bothered by, I was able to focus more on what I had to do, and enjoy while at it.
Performance
Where the Legion Slim 5i truly shines is when you’re gaming on it. With its processor, RAM, and GPU combo, power-hungry games aren’t even enough of a challenge even with the high graphics settings turned on.
Blaster crossfires, lightsabers zooming from blind spots, and explosions left and right—the Legion Slim 5i kept up with the fast pace typical of action shooter games like Star Wars Battlefront II. The lush and vibrant environment of Genshin Impact came to life, and Death Stranding’s surreal, expansive world unraveled smoothly. Did a little bit of Android game emulation on the side as well and experienced no issues. Gaming is immersive, thanks to the 2 x 2W stereo system with Nahimic 3D Audio.
Adding to its gaming-centered features, the Legion Slim 5i is equipped with the LA1 AI chip. This chip uses software-based machine learning to help the system run better by keeping an eye on frame rates, tweaking fans, and managing power.
With its beefy hardware, it comes to no surprise that it also handles any other program meant for work. As expected, typical office tasks involving documents and spreadsheets were a breeze with this machine. Editing loads of photos in Adobe Lightroom was snappy. Even when rendering 3D projects and CAD designs on Lumion, the Legion Slim 5i didn’t show any signs of faltering.
Definitely, it has proven that its processing power isn’t just for show.
