San Miguel Corporation, Accenture, and Ayala Corporation have emerged as the top three most sought-after private companies in the Philippines by Filipino jobseekers. This is according to the Employee Job Happiness Index 2024 survey conducted by online job portal Jobstreet by SEEK.

Other private companies included in the list are Google, JP Morgan Chase & Co., SM Development Corporation (SMDC), Nestle, Globe, P&G, Aboitiz, Amazon, Banco de Oro (BDO), and Emapta.

When it comes to government and non-government organizations (NGOs), the Asian Development Bank ranked as the most sought-after employer, followed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Other agencies that made the list include the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the United Nations, the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Department of Agriculture (DA), the US Embassy, Commisision on Audit, Philippine Ports Authority, and the Department of Finance (DOF), among others.

The survey revealed that Filipino jobseekers prioritize factors such as work schedule or location, company reputation, and values when evaluating potential employers. They also consider work culture, benefits, and job security as critical factors in their decision-making process.

Filipino job seekers also identified the main platforms they use to learn more about the companies they want to join, namely media (social media, news, printed/online articles) at 38%, the company website at 17%, and word-of-mouth at 14%. For employers, these findings highlight the importance of boosting visibility on these platforms, including professional job portals, to attract potential employees.

While a company’s work schedule, reputation, and values are important for attracting talent, keeping that talent is another matter.

The survey found that salary increases (39%), better/flexible working hours (13%), promotions (13%), and holiday/vacation leaves (12%) are key factors in boosting employee morale. Employees said they would be happier in the next six months if they are to receive these benefits.

Employers may consider these benefits to improve employee retention, as a positive work environment helps maintain job satisfaction, and in turn, employee retention. Happy employees are also likely to share their positive experiences, which can attract future jobseekers. Word-of-mouth continues to be a key factor for candidates in choosing a company.
