Leading regional insurtech Igloo has partnered with motorcycle ride-hailing platform Angkas to provide personal accident and medical insurance coverage for its riders.
Motorcycle taxis have become a daily necessity for millions of Filipinos, especially in cities where public transport options are limited or unreliable. As the ride-hailing sector continues to grow—projected to reach USD 1 billion in revenue by 2030—the safety and financial security of riders have become increasingly important. Many riders still operate without insurance, leaving them exposed to high medical costs in the event of an accident.
The partnership between Igloo and Angkas aligns with the Philippine Insurance Commission’s recent move to propose mandatory Passenger Personal Accident Insurance for motorcycle taxis.
Angkas, which supports over 20,000 registered riders and has been downloaded more than 11 million times, will now automatically enroll riders in personal accident plans. The coverage also extends to passengers during active rides.
For a minimum premium of P1 per ride, both riders and passengers are each protected with a personal accident insurance benefit of P650,000 and medical coverage of P200,000. This also comes with a free private ambulance service.
