Splitting the fare after a ride with friends can be a hassle, but Grab Philippines is making it easier for commuters to share a ride and save money.
The company has upgraded its GrabCar Group Ride feature to automatically divide the fare among passengers, with each rider potentially saving up to 50% compared with booking a solo ride.
The feature allows a host and up to two friends to share one GrabCar, with up to three drop-off points along the route. Each passenger can see their share of the fare upfront, making it easier to plan expenses before booking.
Users can also save their regular ride buddies and frequently used pickup and drop-off locations, making repeat bookings quicker and more convenient. The feature could be particularly useful for officemates heading home after work or friends traveling in the same direction after a night out.
To promote the upgrade, Grab released an online video inspired by the catchy shampoo sachet jingles popular in the Philippines during the 2000s.
Dubbed “GrabCar 3-in-1,” the campaign draws a parallel between sharing a ride with friends and getting more value from a familiar household staple. The message is simple: three passengers, one booking, and a more affordable trip home.
Booking a shared ride takes just a few steps:
- Open the Grab app, select GrabCar, then choose Group Ride.
- Enter your pickup and drop-off points.
- Share the invitation link with up to two friends.
- Have your friends add their own drop-off points.
- Confirm the booking and check each passenger’s share of the fare.
GrabCar Group Ride is now available in all GrabCar cities nationwide.
