Dead zones may no longer mean going completely offline as Globe launches Globe Starlink, a satellite-powered mobile service designed to provide connectivity in areas beyond the reach of conventional networks.
The service is now available to Globe Prepaid and TM users starting at P99, while Globe Postpaid customers on Plan 1499 and above, as well as Globe Platinum subscribers, can access it at no additional cost for a limited time.
Designed for travelers, field workers and communities in remote areas, Globe Starlink enables compatible smartphones to access essential communication and online services where traditional mobile coverage is limited or unavailable. Users can send SMS messages, make app-based calls, use navigation services and access digital payment platforms through satellite connectivity.
Globe said Postpaid customers on Plans 1499 and up will receive three months of free access, while Globe Platinum subscribers will get one year of complimentary use. The paid service for Globe Prepaid and TM users became available on June 30.
At launch, Globe Starlink supports compatible Android and HarmonyOS devices. Users can access applications including Viber, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, GCash, GlobeOne and eGov PH even when outside conventional mobile network coverage. Support for iOS devices is expected in a future software update.
Earlier this year, Globe conducted pilot tests in remote areas of Rizal, Batangas, and Bataan, where the service enabled messaging, navigation, digital payments, and access to government services without relying on existing cellular infrastructure.
The telco formally introduced the initiative in January, saying it aims to expand connectivity options for underserved and hard-to-reach communities. By extending mobile access beyond terrestrial networks, Globe Starlink is intended to help more Filipinos stay connected to essential services wherever they are.
