Since entering the Philippines in 2019, Geely distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) has offered three vehicles—all of them SUVs: the Coolray, Azkarra, and the SUV-MPV hybrid Okavango.
But SGAP is ready to dip its toes into the local subcompact sedan segment with the launch of the Geely Emgrand.
This sedan is available in two variants: Comfort and Premium. A third variant—the base S—will be available in the future. Below are the prices of the 2022 Geely Emgrand:
- Geely Emgrand Premium: P908,000
- Geely Emgrand Comfort: P798,000
The Emgrand is longer and wider than other subcompact sedans available in the market. It stands 4,638mm long and 1,822mm wide. It’s also 1,460mm tall—the City (1,467mm) and Vios (1,475mm) are slightly taller—has a ground clearance of 122mm, and a wheelbase of 2,650mm.
Up front, it features Geely’s Energy Pulse grille design, the brand’s newest design language reserved for its line of sedans. Flanking this is a pair of projector LED headlights with daytime running lights.
At the back, the LED taillights span the width of the vehicle, giving the car a wider, more dramatic look especially at night. The rear combination lamps feature 190 LED bulbs, which project three unique light patterns when you lock or unlock the car.
The Emgrand wears 17-inch alloy wheels with 205/50R17 tires and comes with power folding and heated side view mirrors.
Inside, the Emgrand Comfort comes with black fabric seats, while the top-of-the-line variant boasts leatherette and suede seats with a two-tone white and blue finish.
Also exclusive to the Premium variant are the sunroof, 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, handsfree trunk release.
Standard across all variants is an 8-inch infotainment screen, electronic control for the air conditioner with refresh and dry mode, rear vents, and a CN95 filter.
The Emgrand is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with dual continuously variable valve timing (D-CVVT) that generates 102hp and 142Nm. This is mated to a CVT with an 8-speed Tiptronic manual mode. The upcoming S variant will pack the same engine, but with a five-speed manual gearbox.
All variants of the Emgrand come with dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, traction & stability control, hill-start assist, and tire-pressure monitoring system. The Premium variant gets the added benefit of front side airbags, curtain airbags, reverse camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, and speed-sensing door locks.
Geely Emgrand is available in six colors: Proud Teal, Dark Blue, Gold, Gray, Red, and White. It comes with a five-year/150,000km warranty.
Those who will purchase the Emgrand early will get a P50,000 discount and a free 1-year PMS inclusive of parts, oil, and labor.
