Success in sports apparel requires more than quality alone—it demands foresight, innovation, and bold decision-making. These traits have defined Caster Global Sports Inc.’s rise from a small Metro Manila tailoring business to a trusted international sportswear provider.
Founded in the early 1980s by master tailor Carlito Atienza, Caster Sportswear set out to deliver affordable, high-quality customized apparel when few alternatives existed. Carlito’s dedication to craftsmanship quickly built a loyal client base, including leading banks, universities, and corporate institutions nationwide.
For decades, the company thrived locally, but it was the fresh perspective of the second generation that transformed it into a global player.
Vice President Butch Atienza brought an international outlook shaped by his experience at a multinational company. He recognized growing overseas demand for the personalized kits the family had produced for years. Expanding globally, however, required more than ambition—it required reliable logistics.
That search led to FedEx in the early 2000s. “We began shipping with FedEx in the early 2000s after finding the promotional box rates really attractive,” Butch shares. “Back then, we were sending five to nine packages a week, until a FedEx representative noticed our volume and visited us to open an account.”
Today, shipments to the US take as little as two to five days, allowing Caster Global to test markets, respond quickly to customers, and scale without overextending resources.

In a highly competitive market, Caster differentiates itself through craftsmanship and customization. In addition to standard sublimated prints, the company provides embroidery, tailored designs, and one-off recreations based on reference photos—offerings that appeal to customers in the U.S. and Europe seeking distinctive sportswear.
Quality is reinforced through a disciplined production process that includes detailed specification sheets and pre-production samples, alongside continued investment in modern printing and embroidery equipment.
Scaling a manufacturing business requires careful management of cash flow, a balance between bespoke orders and high-volume production, and consistent quality as demand grows. These pressures have guided Caster’s strategic choices, including standardized specifications, documented workflows, and a logistics partnership capable of supporting expansion.
Looking ahead, Butch Atienza is exploring international franchising and partnerships, driven by interest from clients in Australia, Malaysia, the United States, and Switzerland. Locally, Caster has begun discussions around sponsorships and collaborations with major sports organizations, including the Philippine Basketball Association.
For Philippine entrepreneurs, Butch’s advice is pragmatic: focus on product quality, invest in customer service, and build partnerships that reduce friction when expanding abroad. “Shipping reliably was a game-changer for us,” he says, noting that logistical confidence made it possible to sell beyond the Philippines without compromising service.
From a family-led enterprise founded in the 1980s to a globally active sportswear brand today, Caster Global Sports Inc. shows how Philippine craftsmanship, family values, and strong partnerships can push businesses to thrive in the global market.
