Apple Watch Ultra

Aside from the new iPhones, Apple also unveiled its most rugged smartwatch yet at the company’s Far Out event.

The Apple Watch Ultra is a high-performance sports watch that brings an all-new design and a wide range of features designed for more extreme sports. We’re talking about the likes of wakeboarding, recreational scuba diving, and endurance sports.

The Watch Ultra introduces a 49mm titanium case, flat sapphire front crystal, a large display rated at up to 2000 nits of brightness, and a customizable ‘Action’ button—in high-contrast international orange— that gives instant access to a variety of features, including workouts, compass waypoints, and more.

The digital crown is larger and the side button is raised from the case to make them usable even while wearing gloves.

Because it’s designed for adventurers, Apple equipped the Ultra with a 36-hour battery life (in normal use) and can extend to as long as 60 hours in low power mode. Apple claims the Ultra has enough battery life for most users to complete a long-course triathlon (involving a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full 26.2-mile marathon).

Cellular connectivity is built into the Ultra. It also gets improved GPS—supporting both L1 and L5 GPS— and a new positioning algorithm.

It gets three built-in mics that use advanced wind noise-reduction algorithms for better sound quality for voice calls, as well as a new Wayfinder watch face that has a compass built in and space for up to eight complications.

The Wayfinder watch face  includes a compass in the dial, and can be customized for the mountain, ocean, or trail.

The Watch Ultra has a MIL-STD-810H rating, an EN 13319 certification for scuba divers, and WR 100 (100 meters) water resistance. As a diver’s watch, the Watch Ultra can transform into a dive computer, giving you information such as time, depth, and temperature.

Apple Watch Ultra also brings three new bands—Trail Loop, Alpine Loop, and Ocean Band—offering unique design features that provide a secure and comfortable fit for every adventure.

The Trail Loop band is designed specifically for endurance athletes and runners. It’s made of lightweight woven textile and comes with a convenient tab for quick and easy adjustment. The Alpine Loop band, on the other hand, features two integrated layers made from one continuous weaving process. The top loops, interspersed with high-strength yarn, provide adjustability and a secure attachment for the titanium G-hook fastener.

The Ocean Band is designed specifically for extreme water sports and recreational diving with a titanium buckle and spring-loaded loop. Molded from a flexible fluoroelastomer, it stretches and utilizes the tubular geometry for a secure fit.

The Apple Watch Ultra is priced at P52,990. No word yet when it will be available in the Philippines.
