Xiaomi EV has made autonomous driving history, becoming the first to complete a fully driverless lap of Germany’s legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife. A Xiaomi YU7 GT fitted with the Track Package completed the 20.8-kilometer circuit in 10:29.483, with the run officially timed and certified by the Nürburgring.
The achievement has prompted the Nürburgring to add a new official category for Autonomous Driving under its Electric Vehicles classification.
Often called one of the world’s toughest race circuits, the Nürburgring Nordschleife features 73 corners, around 300 meters of elevation change, and constantly changing road conditions. During the run, the Xiaomi YU7 GT handled every steering, braking, and acceleration task without human intervention.
According to Xiaomi, the milestone highlights the capabilities of its latest autonomous driving technology, which combines artificial intelligence with advanced vehicle control systems. The company’s end-to-end driving architecture continuously analyzes road conditions, vehicle behavior, and surrounding traffic to make real-time driving decisions.
The achievement also builds on Xiaomi’s autonomous driving progress since introducing Xiaomi HAD (hyper assisted driving) in 2024. Earlier this year, the company unveiled its next-generation Xiaomi XLA platform powered by the MiMo-Embodied foundation model, designed to improve environmental understanding and decision-making.
Xiaomi said data gathered from the Nürburgring test will help refine its autonomous driving technology, supporting safer and smarter mobility for future electric vehicles.
