Smartphones make for a great gift—whether you’re giving it to a loved one or to yourself (because you deserve it!). The reason is that these smart pocket devices allow you do a lot of things: they connect you to the world, let you be creative and express yourself, and keep you entertained when you just want to chill out and play.

If you’re still trying to figure out what to give yourself or your favorite sibling for Christmas, then we recommend the vivo V25. Read our thoughts on it to know why:

Design and build

The vivo V25 is one of three phones in the V25 series. It’s actually the middle child if we’re talking about the prices, but it’s definitely not one you should overlook. And try hard as you may, you really can’t ignore this beauty, especially the Sunrise Gold variant pictured here. This model features Photochromic 2.0, which allows the smartphone to change from gold to orange to reddish hues when exposed to sunlight or UV light.

Of course, if you prefer an understated but still elegant color, you can opt for the V25 in Diamond Black.

Making the phone even more premium-looking is the matte back panel that remains pristine and clean because it’s fingerprint- and scratch-resistant.

Display and speakers

The vivo V25 comes with a 6.44-inch 90Hz AMOLED screen with 2404×1080 resolution. It’s a beautiful display ideal for watching your favorite content since it’s sharp and outputs vibrant colors and deep blacks. All those dark scenes on Wednesday looked fantastic on this phone.

But what use is a nice display if there’s no good audio to match? Fortunately, vivo equipped the V25 with decent internal speakers that work well for the most part. Of course, for the best experience, we recommend using a pair of wireless headphones (no 3.5mm headphone jack here) or Bluetooth speakers.

Cameras

vivo packed the V25 with a triple rear camera setup: a 64MP main, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro. We’re happy to report that the main and ultrawide shooters take great photos at daytime. Colors are fairly accurate and there are lots of details captured. The same can be said for indoor shots with artificial lighting. If you like shooting close-ups, the macro camera works well, too.

Even night shots turn out nice. Shooting in auto mode in low light churn out pretty good photos, but for better, brighter, and more detailed snaps, we recommend taking advantage of the phone’s Night Mode.

Here are some sample photos we took in various lighting conditions:

Performance and battery

The V25 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G chip paired with 8GB RAM. If that’s not enough memory for you, the RAM can be further extended up to 16GB via 8GB virtual RAM. Overkill? Maybe. But we’ll definitely not say no to it.

During our time with the V25, the phone did not slow down at all. Scrolling and switching between many apps is as smooth as we could hope for.

Even better, the V25 comes with a huge 256GB built-in storage, which you can augment with up to 1TB microSD card. What we’ll need all that space for, we don’t know, but it’s a nice thing to have anyway.

All that power needs a robust battery, and the V25 is equipped with one: a 4500mAh cell that supports 44W fast charging. With moderate use and with Wi-Fi on all day, the battery can last you a day or even a little more. Charging it from zero to 35% takes a little over 15 minutes, while juicing it up to 100% takes less than an hour.

Speed says

The vivo V25 is one power-packed device with good photography capabilities, an all-day fast-charging battery, and huge RAM and storage. It’s chic-looking, too, whether you opt for the Sunrise Gold or Diamond Black colorway. At P23,999, you get all these plus 5G connectivity, a gorgeous AMOLED screen, and more.

Yup, like we said above, this phone makes for a good gift. We guarantee it will put a smile on your recipient’s—or your—face.
