After numerous teasers and sightings, it’s finally here: the Suzuki Jimny 5-door.
Longer and a bit more practical (read: easier ingress/egress) than the 3-door body style, the new Jimny 5-door is for those who want a bit more space while allowing them to enjoy off-road adventures. It’s 170mm longer than the 3-door and gets an additional 340mm of wheelbase.
The Jimny 5-door includes all the practical and functional design aspects of the Jimny. Its sturdy square body not only conveys durability and off-road capability but also enhances the driver’s awareness. The upright A-pillars and flat clamshell bonnet improve front visibility, while the angled lines of the windows extend side visibility.
Chrome details on the front grille, highlighting its unique 5-slot design, and signature round headlamps, along with 15-inch dark-metallic alloy wheels, add to the robust exterior style of the 5-door model.
Inside, it’s basically the same as the 3-door version with its black interior and retro-inspired gauge cluster with multi-info display. There’s a 7-inch (GL) or 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control (GLX), and toggle switches on the center console.
At the rear, the seats now have thicker cushions, and there’s a rear seat lamp, and rear seat power window switches.
The longer wheelbase means a larger luggage space. Despite removing the luggage box from the 3-door model, the lowered floor and increased depth now provide a roomy 211L of luggage capacity with the rear seatback up. Improvements include a luggage area lamp for easy access and the elimination of the toolbox for simpler loading and unloading. Like the 3-door model, the 5-door version also features an accessory socket in the luggage area.
In the safety department, the Jimny 5-Door comes with anti-lock brakes with EBD, hill-start assist and hill-descent control, brake assist, a reverse camera, parking sensors, and a pair of front airbags. The GLX gets additional curtain (front and rear) and side front airbags.
The Jimny 5-door is powered by the same engine as the 3-door model—that is, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 102hp and 130Nm. You also have a choice between a five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmission.
The Suzuki Jimny 5-door offers monotone color options for the GL and GLX variants, including Jungle Green, Celestial Blue Pearl Metallic, Arctic White Pearl, and Granite Gray Metallic.
The GLX Two-Tone variant, on the other hand, is available in Sizzling Red Metallic – Bluish Black Pearl and Chiffon Ivory Metallic – Bluish Black Pearl.
