It’s never too late to learn something new, and the Sunshine Place—a senior hub of the Felicidad T. Sy Foundation—is proving just that with its diverse range of classes.

This year, seniors can boost their health and well-being with Tai Chi, Chair Dancing, Porcelain Painting, and Intermediate and Advanced Acrylic Painting.

Tai Chi, a traditional martial art, is well-known for its meditative and health benefits. This low-impact exercise is particularly beneficial for older adults, as it strengthens muscles, improves joint flexibility, and enhances balance without straining the body. Tai Chi sessions under Irene Chia are scheduled on Saturdays at 8:45-9:45am and 1-2pm.

For those who love to move but require a gentler approach, Chair Dancing offers a fun and inclusive fitness experience. Performed entirely while seated, this class is ideal for seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, and even office workers looking to counteract stiffness. Chair Dance classes under Teacher Danny Vinculado are held every Tuesday from 3-4pm.

Creative spirits can explore the art of Porcelain Painting under the guidance of Mee Lee Casey. Students learn to transform simple plates into works of art, developing their artistic skills and creating heirloom pieces. Porcelain painting classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 10am to 12:30pm, and 1:30-4pm.

Experienced painters can refine their techniques in the Intermediate and Advanced Acrylic Painting class led by Maestro Fidel Sarmiento and Robert Fernandez. The class encourages creative expression and culminates in annual exhibitions. These classes are scheduled every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:30am to 12pm, and 1:30-4:30pm.
