The Subaru WRX sedan, wagon are ready to ignite your senses

In case you missed it, your favorite rally-bred cars are finally here.

After their global debut last year, the all-new 5th-generation Subaru WRX and WRX wagon are now available in the Philippines. And according to Motor Image Pilipinas, the official distributor of Subaru in the country, we’re the first market in the ASEAN region to get the cars.

Even though both vehicles are cut from the same Japanese cloth, they differ in their design direction. The WRX sedan pays stylistic tribute to rallying, especially in its flashy special color (Solar Orange). Meanwhile, the WRX Wagon is more of a classy sports tourer.

Both, however, are powered by the same engine: a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four FA24 boxer engine (271hp and 350Nm). Power is sent to all four wheels with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

The sedan can be had with a 6-speed manual or 8-speed Lineartronic CVT, while the wagon variant is only available as an automatic.

The WRX sedan distinctive styling is highlighted by a large hexagonal grille with honeycomb pattern, a big hood scoop, sleek LED headlamps, a ducktail spoiler, and quad exhausts.

The WRX wagon also looks aggressive and features a similar LED headlight design and blacked-out grille. Unlike the sedan, the wagon comes with two muffler tailpipes.

Both cars are fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels, but the sedan comes with wider tires (245/40 vs. the wagon’s 225/45).

Both models get an 11.6-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear AC vents, and rear dual USB ports.

All CVT-equipped variants get the latest version of EyeSight 4.0, with functionality such as adaptive cruise control with lane centering function, pre-collision braking with autonomous emergency steering, pre-collision throttle management, lane departure warning with lane departure prevention, among others.
