Over 21,000 employees, customers, and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel across 106 SM malls, offices, and properties participated in the 3rd SM Supermalls and BFP Nationwide Simultaneous Fire Drill on March 13.

The drill simulated a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that resulted in a fire, gas explosion, and structural collapse, as well as injured, missing, and trapped victims at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong. The mall was the main venue of the fire drill.

The Mandaluyong City Fire Station, Mandaluyong CDRRMO, PNP, MMDA, barangay, together with SM’s fire brigade teams and tenants demonstrated their respective capabilities including rope and high angle rescue, fire blanket and extinguisher use, and first aid response.

The nationwide simultaneous fire drill is one of the ways SM shows its commitment to building risk-resilient communities. The partnership with the BFP focuses on the constant training of SM personnel to handle disasters like earthquakes and fires, ensuring the safety of customers, tenants, employees, nearby communities, and the public.
