Samsung launched on January 17 (January 18, Philippine time) its newest S-series, composed of the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra.

Visually, not much has changed from the previous generation. The biggest change this year is on the software side, specifically Galaxy AI, which promises to transform how you interact and use your phone for everyday tasks.

“The Galaxy S24 series transforms our connection with the world and ignites the next decade of mobile innovation,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “Galaxy AI is built on our innovation heritage and deep understanding of how people use their phones. We’re excited to see how our users around the world empower their everyday lives with Galaxy AI to open up new possibilities.”

One of these is Live Translate, which is a two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls within the native app. Basically, this means you can converse with people in your own language and the person on the other end—who speaks a different tongue—can understand you. That’s because as you speak, the phone translates your words into text and reads it out for the other person, and vice versa. There are also no third-party apps needed, and the person at the other end of the line could be using any phone make or model, or even a landline phone.

Interpreter instantly translates live conversations on a split-screen, allowing people facing each other to see text transcriptions of what the other person says. It works without cellular data or Wi-Fi.

For messages and apps, Chat Assist refines conversational tones to ensure communication sounds appropriate, whether it’s a polite message to a coworker or a catchy social media caption. The AI in Samsung Keyboard translates messages in real-time across 13 languages.

In the car, Android Auto summarizes incoming messages and suggests replies, helping you stay connected while focused on the road.

Note Assist in Samsung Notes enhances organization with AI-generated summaries, streamlined note templates, and cover creation for easy identification, while Transcript Assist uses AI and Speech-to-Text technology to transcribe, summarize, and translate voice recordings. We reckon the latter is something certain professionals (like journalists, for example) will find useful.

The Galaxy S24 series introduces a groundbreaking feature, Circle to Search with Google, making it the first phone to offer an intuitive, gesture-driven search experience. By long-pressing the home button, you can circle, highlight, scribble, or tap anything on the screen to get high-quality search results without leaving the app. This intuitive tool allows you to explore and discover more about what you see in a friend’s social media photo or video.

When it comes to imaging, Galaxy S24 series’ ProVisual Engine enhancess image capture and boosts creative freedom—from setting up a shot to sharing it on social media.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System, with new 5x optical zoom lens, works with the 50MP sensor to deliver optical-quality performance at zoom levels of 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x magnification.

Galaxy’s AI editing tools make it easy to do basic edits like erasing, re-composing, and improving photos. The Edit Suggestion feature uses AI to recommend the best adjustments for each photo, making the process quicker and more efficient. For added creative control, the Generative Edit can fill in background parts with AI. If a photo is tilted, AI can fix the borders. If an object needs a slight move, AI helps adjust the position and creates a seamless background. And for fast-paced videos, the new Instant Slow-mo feature can slow down action scenes by generating extra frames for a more detailed view.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24+ are powered by an Exynos 2400 processor, while the top-spec Galaxt S24 Ultra comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Below are the key specs and SRPs of the Galaxy S24 series:
