At MWC 2024, OPPO unveiled a prototype of its OPPO Air Glass 3 “assisted reality” glasses, showcasing the potential of AI technology through cross-device collaboration between XR (extended reality) devices and smartphones.

The Air Glass 3 looks like a regular pair of eyewear but has a built-in display for viewing digital content in the real world. It uses augmented reality for navigation and displaying messages or calls.

You can interact with the Air Glass 3 through voice and touch. OPPO’s homegrown large language model (LLM) called AndesGPT powers the voice assistant and generative AI features like information searches and conversations. Meanwhile, touch interaction involves tapping the frame to navigate on the full-color display.

The Air Glass 3 weighs 50 grams and the display has a peak brightness of more than 1,000 nits. It also features reverse sound field technology, an open acoustic design with four microphones, and other innovations that improve noise isolation to deliver high audio quality and enhanced privacy protection.

With the Air Glass 3, OPPO is banking on two popular technologies: generative AI and smart glasses. Whether these high-tech glasses prove useful enough to deserve a spot on your face is up to OPPO.
