OPPO and legendary camera manufacturer Hasselblad have announced that they will co-develop what they call the “next-generation of HyperTone camera systems” that, when complete, will “usher in a new era in computational photography.”

The two companies announced the partnership at Paris Photo 2023, an annual international fine art photography fair. The systems are set to debut in future OPPO Find series flagships.

“By combining classic imaging aesthetics with mobile technology, OPPO and Hasselblad have developed an aesthetic system that is tailored for mobile imaging. In 2024, the two companies will launch the next generation HyperTone Camera Systems and Hasselblad camera experience that promise to continue to set new industry standards,” OPPO Imaging Director Oliver Zhang said.

OPPO’s HyperTone Camera System comprises the HyperTone All Main Camera System, HyperTone Image Engine, and HyperTone ProXDR Display. These work together to provide what the two companies call “complete system-level imaging.”

The HyperTone All Main Camera System, a first in the industry, ensures high-quality images for all focal lengths, regardless of the time of day.

According to OPPO and Hasselblad, the HyperTone Image Engine resolves various problems in traditional computational photography, resulting in fewer digital artifacts due to increased computational capabilities.

HyperTone Camera System also comes with the industry-leading HyperTone ProXDR Display, which can precisely record the brightness of 12 million pixels and therefore unlock up to eight times more dynamic range on-screen. This restores natural tones for a more realistic photo viewing experience. OPPO is also striving to make ProXDR compatible with the Ultra HDR standard.
