Your next Maya prepaid card could be made from recycled plastic. The digital bank has begun rolling out prepaid cards made from recycled Polyvinyl Chloride (rPVC), marking a new step in its sustainability efforts without changing the payment experience customers rely on.
Maya plans to transition all newly produced prepaid Mastercard and Visa cards to recycled materials by the end of the year. The cards will continue to offer the same security, durability, and functionality while helping reduce the company’s reliance on virgin plastic.
Cardholders can use the recycled plastic cards for ATM withdrawals and purchases at more than 150 million merchant locations worldwide where Mastercard and Visa are accepted. New cards will also carry a “Made from 100% Recycled Plastic” mark on the back, making the environmentally conscious shift visible to users.

It reflects our belief that sustainability should be embedded into how we build and grow our business.”
Launched in time for Philippine Environment Month this June, the initiative builds on Maya’s broader sustainability agenda. Since 2022, the company has tracked and reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions while promoting energy conservation and cutting single-use plastics through its employee-led #MayaSWITCH program.
