Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu is now QR Ph-ready as digital bank and money app Maya recently launched the national QR standard for retail payments in the first class highly urbanized city.

In a ceremony held at the Lapu-Lapu Public Market on February 17, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Department of Interior and Local Government, and local officials formally launched the initiative to enable QR-based transactions among vendors in public markets, local transportation, and other MSMEs.

Lapu-Lapu City is the latest city to join the roster of local government units transforming their public markets into Paleng-QR Ph following the launches in Baguio City, Davao City, Tagbilaran City, and Naga City.

Consumers can enjoy the QR Ph through Maya’s superior omnichannel touchpoints, allowing even non-Maya users to transact with merchants via Static Maya QR displayed at stores, Maya Terminal point-of-sale devices, and online checkout with Pay with Maya.

Meanwhile, more than 55 million Maya customers enjoy seamless transactions on Maya’s consumer platforms, designed to work seamlessly with other QR Ph-participating financial institutions.
