Commuters on Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) can now pay for their fares by simply tapping their Visa or Mastercard cards, using NFC-enabled mobile wallets, or scanning a GCash QR code. The rollout marks the launch of the Philippines’ first rail-based automated fare collection system that seamlessly supports card, mobile, and QR payments on a single platform.

The new payment system is powered by Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) in partnership with Visa, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr). It forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize public transportation through secure, interoperable, and globally accepted digital payment technologies.

Built on an open-loop, bank-agnostic platform, the system enables commuters to use eligible payment cards and digital wallets issued by participating banks, electronic money issuers, and fintech providers. By eliminating the need for a dedicated transit card, it aims to make fare payments faster, more convenient, and more accessible for everyday commuters.

To encourage more passengers to try the new payment option, RCBC is offering its PISO Fare Cashback Promo from July 13 to 31. The promotion is available exclusively to RCBC Debit and Credit Card holders, as well as MySSS RCBC DiskarTech Debit Card holders, allowing them to enjoy fare cashback while experiencing the new cashless payment system.

The digital fare collection system is expected to streamline transactions for the more than 58.7 million passengers who use LRT-2 each year while supporting the country’s broader push toward digital payments and a more efficient public transport network.
