Protecting priceless artworks, historical artifacts, and natural specimens requires more than careful handling—it also depends on maintaining the right environment.
To help safeguard the country’s cultural and natural heritage from the damaging effects of excess humidity, LG Electronics Philippines has donated 41 LG PuriCare Dehumidifiers to the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP), expanding a partnership aimed at preserving collections for future generations.
The turnover ceremony was held on May 18 at the National Museum of Natural History, coinciding with International Museum Day and National Heritage Month. The donation builds on LG’s support for the National Museum, following its 2025 donation of 21 dehumidifier units to the National Museum of Fine Arts.

This year, the partnership expands beyond a single site. Six units have been allocated to the National Museum of Anthropology and 15 to the National Museum of Natural History, while the remaining units will be distributed to regional museums and galleries across the country, including NMP sites in Kiangan, Baler, Kabayan, Ilocos, Bicol, Tabon, Bohol, Cebu, Dumaguete, Iloilo, San Jose de Buenavista, Davao, and Zamboanga.
Humidity is one of the biggest challenges museums face, particularly in tropical climates like the Philippines. Excess moisture can damage artworks, textiles, artifacts, and natural specimens over time, making climate control an important part of preservation efforts.
“Temperature and relative humidity are one of the challenges museums face, especially in a tropical environment. Moisture in the air can contribute to mold, dampness, and deterioration, which is why dehumidifiers play an important role in helping us care for collections,” Jeremy Barns, Director-General of the National Museum of the Philippines, said. “These units allow us to better manage gallery conditions and support our ongoing work to preserve the country’s cultural and natural heritage.”
The initiative also aligns with this year’s International Museum Day theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World,” highlighting the role of museums in connecting communities through culture, history, science, and shared heritage.
