Kia‘s first dedicated electric vehicle, the EV6, is coming to our shores in early 2023—and it’s going to be priced below P4 million.
This was confirmed by Kia Philippines when it previewed the fully electric car at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).
The EV6 is a fully electric car that brings long-range, zero-emissions power, 800V ultra-fast charging, and distinctive styling to the crossover SUV market. It’s also the automaker’s first car based on the company’s dedicated new platform for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
It has won many titles and awards including a 5-Star NCAP rating, the 2022 European Car of the Year, 2022 iF Design Award, and 2022 Red Dot Award.
Designed in part to realize aerodynamic performance, the rear of the EV6 displays a sloping C-pillar with an integrated black glossy insert that appears to extend the window glass. Above this sits a prominent wing-type roof spoiler that channels air downwards towards a raised lower spoiler.
According to Kia, the EV6 is capable of doing over 500km on a single charge. Its 77.4kWh battery is paired with a 168kW (229ps) electric motor powering the rear wheels. With maximum 350Nm torque, the EV6 can go from 0 to 100kph in 7.3 seconds.
Thanks to its 800V ultra-fast charging capability, the battery can fill up to 80% in just 18 minutes.
The under-floor battery makes the EV6’s interior versatile and spacious. It can seat five passengers and comes with two 12-inch curved displays: one as the gauge cluster and the other as the infotainment system.
Sales of the Kia EV6 will begin in early 2023. Charging options in the Philippines are as follows: through the Kia In Cable Control Box (ICCB) charger that comes with the vehicle; a home wall-mounted charger that can be purchased and installed by Kia’s affiliate, Greenstrum; and the growing number of malls and establishments that offer EV charging stations with Type 2/CCS2 protocol.
